Minnesota, U.S.A - Gambella has become an area of concern for investors and yet, most do not really know what is going on. A Western journalist in Addis Ababa recently asked Mr. Obang Metho, the Executive Director of the Solidarity Movement for a New Ethiopia (SMNE) and a native of Gambella, with many existing connections to the local people, to comment on the conditions in the Gambella region. However, due to the Ethiopian regime’s extreme sensitivity to critical information and its willingness to utilize vague anti- terrorism laws to repress members of the media or deport foreign journalists who do not comply, this journalist and the newspaper he/she represented have decided against publishing this information while in Addis. We, the SMNE are now publishing the answers to his/her questions along with Obang’s answers as we believe it may be of interest to the public.
By Keffyalew Gebremedhin - In its June –July 2012 issue, Foreign Policy magazine has, in collaboration with the Fund for Peace, published the 2012 Failed States Index, the eighth in the series. This year’s report gives 10 reasons why countries fall apart. It clearly shows that the collapse of a failed state is a process. Countries fail, the report states, “not in an explosion of war and violence but by being utterly unable to take advantage of their society’s huge potential for growth, condemning their citizens to a lifetime of poverty.”
By Abebe Gellaw (AddisVoice.com) – Since Meles Zenawi faced the shock of his lifetime at the G8 Food Security Symposium in the Ronald Reagan Building, Washington DC, Ethiopia’s brutal tyrant had disappeared from public view for one month. On 17th June, Meles resurfaced in Los Cabos, Mexico at the G-20 annual meeting.
Nairobi, Kenya – The Ethiopian government is forcibly displacing indigenous pastoral communities in Ethiopia’s
Lower Omo valley without adequate consultation or compensation to make
way for state-run sugar plantations, Human Rights Watch said in a report
released today. The report contains previously unpublished government
maps that show the extensive developments planned for the Omo valley,
including irrigation canals, sugar processing factories, and 100,000
hectares of other commercial agriculture.
By Mohamed Keita - On Wednesday, the same day the White
House announced a strategic plan committing the United States to elevating its efforts in "challenging leaders whose actions threaten the
credibility of democratic processes" in sub-Saharan Africa, a senior
member of the U.S. Congress challenged the
erosion of press freedom in a key U.S. strategic partner in the Horn of Africa:
Ethiopia. Underscoring the importance of Ethiopia asan important partner for the United States
in containing terrorism and ending poverty and famine in the region, Senator
Patrick Leahy, a democrat from Vermont, published
on Thursday a statement
in TheCongressional Record, the official daily journal of U.S.
Congress, in which he condemned the assault on the freedom of the Ethiopian
press under Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
The technology is to "scan" the data traveling over a network, directly without the intercept. Schematically, this is a little like reading the contents of a letter: the mail is not opened, but its contents have been read ...
By OJ , MINNESOTA, USA - A 23-year-old Anuak man drowned to death Saturday afternoon at Hiniker Pond, authorites said. By Akway Nyigwo, Kenya - One thing I observed is that, people who share a common direction and sense of community get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are depending on one each other’s trust. People with positive attitudes could go places, do things, that other could not. They are not restricted by self-imposed limitation. So every person God creates has gifts, our obstacles are the poverty and government rules toward the Anuak people.
By Obang Omot, Minnesota, U.S.A - Dear loyal customers,Obang’s Income Tax Service is announcing the discontinuation of its service to its loyal customers indefinitely. I am remorseful to announce my termination of tax preparation for 2012 tax season. This is due to interrelated opportunity that came across my way and took it to a deep consideration.
