Dividing Jonglei State Leads to a Mess Up

By Odit Medho Agwa Didumo - I did mentioned in my previous article regarding Jonglei state division as a prerogative for any citizen across the state provide that the motivations should be tangible and clear on the table by the activists rather than pressing the division button day and night without any logical clarifications to support your application, otherwise it will be consider by the public a racial hatred as well as a conflict of interest.

The top leaders behind the mobilization has got strong ties with Khartoum government before and  today if I am not wrong and no one can deny the facts that there might be a coordination between two parties letting the boss to exercise its powers by remote control with an intention to destabilize the state more than it is. Right now I don’t understand what motivated these people to call for division at this critical time. Pibor has got no buildings as well as Pochall and Buma. Where are they going to put the head quarter? Will it be in a nest building? Ismail Konyi, a Murle traditional leader and one of many advisers to the South Sudanese President, must answer it.

Two years ago they were asking three tribes to be in one state, but after a brutal tribal violence wars the demand has shifted to excluded one tribe.

Surprisingly there are few Anyuak people rallying behind Ismail with his group despite that their county is not included in the new state map demanded by the few Murle activists. What kind of accomplishment they are expecting if the government of the South Sudan ratify division in five years a head or in ten years? Do we need to know first the advantages and disadvantages before coming up to support the initiative? We better study the situation first and prove that a strong foundation already attainable for the new state.

Ismail group asking for the state that will allowed child trafficking, cattle,s raid and killing innocent people on the street without any interrogation. Ismail group want the state that will accommodate terrorists and ruled by Khartoum government with remote control and supply them weapons to destroy the South again and clear out Anyuak from their mother land. Ismail group looking at Anyuak land like first world countries where you can find Health care card, KFC, Hungry Jack and McDonald.

Do we believe that the Anyuak and Murle people have reached a convince standard  level of education if there are some people still believe in Ismail himself as the right person to lead Jonglei state at the moment?.  I know there are a good number of educated people from two tribes but it will not justify self-reliance in term of governance and rule of law. It does not make sense unless they want chaos to replace order.

Brothers and sisters, an expected state to accommodate you and Murle without others tribes will bury you alive, Ismail is not looking for the state, there is an agenda hidden behind it. I heard they are claiming Okello village and many of them believed that Okello is a part of Murle land before formation of new state. If it happens it will mean more disputes and more confrontations over that land and the results will be worse despite that we have no intention to carry out any revenge attack against Murle.

I heard that Juba meetings regarding reconciliation and state divisions came up with recommendations to speed up and rush into Anyuak area for another conference by March a head without any consideration to the tribal leaders on the ground, and Ismail himself was recognized by political leaders as the right person to lead the reconciliation team which is totally wrong.

Ismail is not the right person to lead Murle team to Anyuak land for reconciliation, Anyuak will consider him as an invader on that soil, his appearance will touch the wounds and the reconciliation will die up.

Murle must rally behind leaders who have no problem with Anyuak before, wise leaders with clear visions for harmony life between two tribes.

The right time has come for Murlo people to remember what has been said by great leader late Komain Teny when he challenged Ismail not to invade Anyuak land in the eighties. He was a brave man, wise and looking ahead with vision to preserve Murle people in the region. He said that Anyuak people in Pochalla land have no problem with us, we should not kill them, and tomorrow we will need their territories. That was a prophecy.

The prime time has come for Ismail to remember an Anyuak villager man who gave him a clear advice in Pochalla area when he said during the meeting that the cow you are milking will dry up tomorrow and the ruling party, Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) cow will be more attractive than Khartoum cow and it is happening right now.

Lastly we extend our white hands to the Murle innocent people, we are not against reconciliation if it was done in a good faith by clean people not a murderer’s people like Ismail and he was already deposed by his community and should step aside rather than putting his bloody signatures in the reconciliation paper work.

The state assembly must be involved to strengthen and dignify the move and the leaders must not link reconciliation with state division. If they did it will be a mess up.

 Editor's note -

Dear Readers, I have received a lot of e-mails from you asking whether I support the position of this article or why did I post it. First of all, I would like to thank you for expressing your views.   As a community, we have high stakes on what is going on in the state of Jongeli.  Because of this, I do not take any issue regarding the state slightly. To what is my position on dividing Jongeli state, what I can only say is I have a different position then Odit’s.  When I posted this article I was full aware of the debate that was going on in Juba and Bor about this issue. I posted the article to bring the debate to you. Please send me your comments, I will post them here.
