By OJ, Reporter - A man was shot and killed in IFO Refugee camp by a Somali gunman on Tuesday May 8 2012, eyes witnesses said. The victim was identified as a young man by the name of Olimi, also known as the "Boy". He was listening to the news when the gunman apparently called him out to the gate of G-3 section and shot him. He was already dead when Kenyan Police arrived. No words whether the lunatic gunman acted on behalf of any one, any group or alone killer .
IFO Refugee Camp is located in East Kenya along its border with Somalia which has had a very weak central government since 1991. The camp has over 100,000 people from Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan and few others from other countries. Anuak people began arriving in IFO in 1993, two years after the camp was formed by the United Nations (UN) and their number increased recently by the forced land relocation imposed by Meles Zenawi’s regime on Anuak people.
"The guy started with us here" said one eyewitness, "he talked to me with emotional. But I just kept my cool, for God sake left us alone" he added. Then the gunman continued his hunt and pointed his weapon at yet another Anuak refugee. According to the eyewitnesses, the man raises his hands over his head and yielded "What did I do?" Luckily, it wasn't his day; the gunman lowered his weapon, left him alone and went on. Next stop was a group of women gathering at one place, but he didn't pay attention to them. He left them alone and went on. Determined to kill, he found the "Boy" minding his own business, not knowing his last breath is seconds away when the gunman called him out.
A man with a big heart he was, he didn't blink even though the man calling him out was armed and dangerous. The "Boy", a son, and a husband, have seen ups and downs in his lifetime. He was loved, respected and even feared at one point in his life. People who knew him know that. On May 8 2012, he was gunned down helplessly. Anuaks all over the world are expressing their condolences to his family and friends. Among them, here what one Anuak expressed: “Another Anuak Youth life being lost in such wrong way. I am so sorry to hear that horrible news. May his soul Rest Ii Peace!!!"
Off you go, Olimi, off you go! It seems that killing is following Anuak everywhere they go. Each and every one of us will see you soon.
